Find Sunflower Release Dates

A Sunflower County projected release date is an estimate tied to the type of custody, sentence, credit, and any later agency action. Someone awaiting trial may have no fixed date because bond, court orders, and other holds control when release can occur. A sentenced state prisoner may have a tentative date calculated by state corrections, while a local jail sentence follows county and court records. To learn when an inmate will be released, first identify the custodian. Then separate an MDOC projection, parole eligibility, earned release supervision, and final discharge.

Sunflower Projected and Actual Dates

Mississippi's official public MDOC field is labeled Tentative Release Date. A tentative date is a current calculation, not proof that a person left custody. MDOC separately computes parole, earned release supervision, tentative release or discharge, and maximum dates. Each answers a different question.

A pretrial detainee at Sunflower County Jail usually has no computed sentence-release date. The official county listing identifies Sheriff James Haywood, whose office operates the jail. Bond may be set, changed, or satisfied, and a judge may issue an order, yet jail staff must still check other holds and complete processing. A short county sentence may depend on the sentencing order and jail credit. By contrast, a person serving an MDOC sentence has a state time computation built from the judgment, eligible credit, sentence structure, and governing law.

Scheduled versus actual: A future or passed tentative date is not a completed release. Confirm the event with the holding agency and the final release or discharge record.

Find Sunflower Inmate Release Dates

Start with custody type. The MDOC offender search applies to state-sentenced people, including those at Mississippi State Penitentiary. It accepts first name, last name, and MDOC ID. Its detail record can show identity data, location, unit, sentence information, county of conviction, sentence date, and the Tentative Release Date. It is not an archive for every person booked into Sunflower County Jail.

A county detainee released on bond, after dismissal, or after a short local sentence may never enter MDOC. Ask the sheriff for the jail release entry and ask the controlling court for the order or sentence. If the jail says the person transferred to MDOC, switch to the state system. Federal custody requires a federal locator rather than either county or MDOC records.

  1. Identify whether the person is in county jail, MDOC custody, or another jurisdiction.
  2. For MDOC, search by ID when possible and record the exact tentative date plus the day it was viewed.
  3. Obtain the sentencing order and check whether terms run at the same time or one after another.
  4. Ask about eligible jail credit, ERS, parole eligibility, detainers, and any amended judgment.
  5. Confirm actual release with the custodian and a completed release or discharge record.

The official MDOC detail example shows how the state places sentence and date fields on one record. Review the MDOC result source before interpreting a copied date.

Sunflower Release Date Earned Time

Mississippi Code Section 47-5-138 governs the central MDOC earned-time rule. For a sentence imposed after June 30, 1995, the statute permits an allowance of four and one-half days for each thirty days served when MDOC finds that conduct and performance rules are met. The ordinary allowance may not exceed fifteen percent of the sentence.

That cap is the source of the often used “85 percent” phrase. It does not guarantee that every person leaves after exactly eighty-five percent. Eligibility exclusions, forfeited time, other authorized credits, sentence dates, offense categories, parole action, and additional sentences can change the result. The older one-half earned-time rule applies to sentences imposed on or before June 30, 1995. Applying it to a modern sentence would produce a false estimate.

Serious rule violations may cause earned time to be forfeited, and the statute generally does not permit restoration of forfeited time. An earlier tentative date can therefore move later. A verified correction to sentence or jail credit can also move the projection. MDOC performs the calculation. It cannot be rebuilt safely from a sentence length alone.

Note: The fifteen-percent cap describes one MDOC allowance and must not be applied to a Sunflower County bond release or local jail term.

How Sunflower Release Dates Compute

Pre-sentence jail credit is one key input. MDOC guidance says eligible credit must relate to the cause for which the person is incarcerated and fall within the relevant pre-sentence period. MDOC seeks that information from the county of conviction. Credit listed in a sentencing order is posted unless it duplicates credit already given.

Sentence structure matters just as much. Concurrent terms run at the same time. Consecutive terms run one after another. An amended judgment, an added sentence, a corrected cause number, or corrected identity data can require a new computation. A public tentative date may lag while MDOC receives and posts the controlling material.

Concurrent
Sentence terms served at the same time, subject to the judgment and computation.
Consecutive
Sentence terms served one after another.
Jail credit
Eligible pre-sentence time credited to the cause for which the sentence is being served.
Maximum date
The department's calculated terminal date, distinct from parole or ERS eligibility.

County jail calculations remain separate. No official Sunflower County jail good-time formula or weekend-release policy was found. Obtain the court's sentence, ask the sheriff for the actual jail-credit calculation, and request the completed jail release entry. State-prison earned-time math should never be copied onto a county case.

Release paperwork also follows the custodian. The sheriff's jail docket should show how a county prisoner was released or discharged and should record the penitentiary officer's receipt when the person transferred to state custody. MDOC, in turn, creates the state time sheet and discharge material. A county release date and an MDOC entry date may describe two sides of the same transfer rather than a period of freedom between them.

A local court may sign an order before the jail completes checks for another county, state, federal, or immigration hold. Compare the signed date, filed date, and physical release timestamp. They need not match. The latest event controls the custody answer, while the order explains the legal basis for the change.

Sunflower Release Date Changes

A projection changes when the legal or factual inputs change. Some changes move the date. Others affect whether the person can leave on that date at all. A detainer, for example, may result in transfer to another authority rather than community release.

Parole eligibility is governed separately by Section 47-7-3. Current law uses different thresholds for qualifying offense groups and excludes some sentences. Eligibility opens a chance for Board action. It does not command a release, and a grant may still require approved plans and cleared holds.

Sunflower ERS Is Not Discharge

Release under earned release supervision occurs before the terminal sentence date. The person remains an inmate under MDOC jurisdiction until expiration and is supervised in a way similar to parole. Thus, an ERS date can mark departure from a prison without marking the end of state control.

MDOC guidance lists limits and disqualifiers that can involve habitual-offender sentences, certain violent or sex-offense terms, specified contraband crimes, some detainers, and prior program circumstances. The exact result depends on the sentence and statute in effect. An offense label alone is not enough to compute eligibility.

If an MDOC location changes from a prison unit to community supervision, compare the date and status with the time sheet and Community Corrections record. If a prison unit still appears, a near tentative date does not show that the person has been released. An actual discharge certificate or MDOC Records response is stronger than an old screenshot of a projected field.

Parole is a separate path from ERS. The Mississippi State Parole Board decides parole for an eligible state prisoner, and eligibility does not guarantee a grant. Even after a grant, an approved residence, release planning, eligibility timing, detainers, and final processing can affect the physical departure date. Community Corrections supervision after that departure confirms conditional release, not full discharge.

MDOC's Family and Friends guidance says the case manager notifies the incarcerated person of the release date after travel plans are verified. It also describes a release process that may take thirty to forty-five days and requires a discharge certificate. Those state-prison logistics do not govern a Sunflower County bond-out, dismissal, or local time-served release.

For state custody, contact MDOC Records at 601-933-2889 or MDOCRecordsDepartment@mdoc.state.ms.us. Give the full name, MDOC number if known, birth date, conviction county, and approximate date. Ask whether the displayed field is a tentative, ERS, parole-eligible, maximum, or completed release date. Also ask whether a discharge certificate issued.

A written MDOC public-records request can seek the releasable time computation, actual release or discharge date, release type, releasing facility, and discharge certificate. The public details page is a locator and summary. The underlying record is the better source when an old capture conflicts with a revised calculation or when the tentative field is blank.

For the Sunflower County Jail, use the sheriff's official site, jail docket, and booking or release record. Mississippi law requires the jail docket to show how a prisoner was released or discharged and to record transfer proof when the person went to the penitentiary. The sheriff's court-routing page helps identify the local court schedule, but the case file explains the legal authority and the jail entry shows whether the custodian carried it out.

A pending event notification can be set through the VINELink Release Check. VINE is useful for a reported event, but it is not a permanent archive or certified date calculation. Pair any alert with the jail, MDOC, or receiving-agency record before calling the result an actual community release.

Keep the result narrow. A county date proves when the sheriff ended that booking only when paired with its disposition. An MDOC date proves the state event described in that file. A transfer destination or hold may show that one agency's release was immediately followed by another agency's custody.

Note: Record the source and check date whenever saving a tentative date, because later credits, orders, discipline, or holds can change it.
